This one’s a unique prototype! An early experiment in making a high-output Gold Foil humbucker. It was designed to deliver huge power and punch while keeping the clarity, chime, and wide-open response that make gold foils so lively.
Built with an Alnico 5 bar magnet and wound to around 15kΩ, this pickup measures about 3.8 Henries of inductance, giving it serious drive and midrange weight without losing definition. It hits the amp hard, tightens the low end, and still cleans up beautifully when you roll the volume back.
Tonally, its a hot PAF: thick mids, crisp highs, and a wide open attack. Perfect for heavier styles, fuzz lovers, or anyone wanting the Gold Foil character with extra push.
It never went into production simply because players tend to be wary of high-output pickups, even though this one stays remarkably articulate and dynamic. In practice, it’s capable of doing virtually the same job as the standard Gold Foil model now in production just with a touch more grunt and headroom.
Finished in a traditional half gold foil , this prototype was part of an early test run. It’s fully functional and tested.
when its gone its gone!
