A3 Model Strat Pickup

from £70.00

This particular model embraces the idiosyncrasies of a 50s style pickup while incorporating a few contemporary enhancements. The abundance of conflicting information surrounding authenticity and what defines a "period correct" pickup often makes it challenging to discern fact from fiction. In my assessment, Fender simply utilised whatever materials were available to them at the time!

For this model, I use lightly bevelled Alnico III magnets which deviates slightly from the norm. Additionally, the pole spacing is slightly wider than what you would find in modern pickups, measuring at 52.8mm. Staying true to the originals, I use 42AWG wire. This combination yields a warm and rounded tone, with a delightful chime-like quality in the upper register and a snappy midrange response. These pickups exhibit exceptional sensitivity to pick attack and excel in various amplifier and setting configurations. If you crave that thick, textured tone with a razor-sharp edge reminiscent of the 50s, your search ends here!

The versions of this pickup in the photos use heavy formvar (single picture) and poly coated wire (set picture). You have the option of choosing between these or plain enamel. If you’re unsure about the differences, please see the FAQ page for more information. Once you ‘add to cart” you can input the cover colour of your choice. Some of the colours available are shown in the pictures.

As with all Green Pickups, They are built by hand, sealed with lacquer and dipped in lamp black paraffin wax to help with microphonics. This method naturally dulls the poles sheen as they were considered unsightly. If you want shiny poles let me know!
