Strat Sized Staple Single Coil
Strat-Sized Staple Pickup – Vintage Warmth with Modern Clarity
The Staple Strat Pickups reimagine the traditional Stratocaster voice with a unique magnetic configuration and precision winding. At their core are Alnico 5 staple magnets, which offer a broader magnetic field and altered flux pattern compared to traditional cylindrical poles. This results in a more even string-to-string response and increased sensitivity to player dynamics.
Each coil is wound with 43 AWG plain enamel wire, increasing the number of turns without drastically raising the DCR. This enhances midrange presence and output while maintaining articulation. The bridge pickup is wound to 8.5k ohms for a hotter, harmonically rich response, while the middle and neck are slightly under wound to 8k ohms for openness and balance.
From a technical standpoint, the pickups exhibit an inductance of approximately 2.8 Henries, positioning them higher than typical Strat pickups (which often fall around 2.2–2.4 H). This translates to a warmer low-end and more pronounced midrange, while still retaining the chime and clarity expected from single coils.
Key Features:
Alnico 5 staple magnets for wider magnetic aperture and increased string-to-string consistency
43 AWG plain enamel wire for higher output and rich harmonic content
Inductance: ~2.8 Henries
Resistance: 8.5k (Bridge), 8k (Middle/Neck)
Vintage-correct flatwork and cloth push-back leads
Reverse-wound middle pickup for hum-canceling in positions 2 & 4 (optional)
How it compares to a traditional Strat Pickup
1. Warmer, Smoother Tone – Compared to classic Strat single-coils, this pickup provides a fuller midrange and a more even response, reducing the characteristic Strat “scoop” while retaining note clarity.
2. Stronger Low End – Rectangular pole pieces help produce a deeper, more powerful bass response, making chords and single notes sound fuller.
3. Higher Output – Unlike traditional Strat pickups that use rod magnets, this design features rectangular tapered “staples”, resulting in a stronger signal with more sustain and a punchier attack.
4. Refined Pick Attack & Dynamics – While Strat pickups are known for their spanky highs and sharp attack, this staple pickup smooths out the top end, offering a more controlled and balanced response—ideal for blues, jazz, and expressive rock playing.
5. Unique Aesthetic & Feel – The staple pickup’s distinctive look sets your guitar apart while maintaining a direct drop-in fit for Stratocaster-style guitars.
Specs:
• Resistance: 8.6k
• Inductance: 2.8H
• Magnets: Alnico V Staple
• Construction: Precision-wound coil for a balance of vintage warmth and modern clarity
• Tone Characteristics: Bold lows, smooth mids, and crisp highs—ideal for players seeking a refined single-coil experience
Perfect for blues, rock, jazz, and beyond, this pickup is a versatile upgrade for any guitarist looking for enhanced dynamics, sustain, and note definition—all while keeping the familiar Strat format intact.
