The G/ Humbucker (variant 2)

from £110.00

The G/2: The Mixed Magnet Humbucker for Versatility

The G/2 features a mixed magnet design within a single unit. This unique configuration provides a wide tonal palette, catering to a variety of players who are looking for versatility.

The Science

The combination of the Alnico 4 and Ceramic magnets lowers the inductance of a humbucker compared to one using Alnico 5. Alnico 4 has a weaker magnetic field than Alnico 5. Ceramic, while strong in coercivity doesn’t couple as efficiently with the pole pieces. This results in less magnetic flux through the coils, reducing inductance.

Despite the lower inductance, the pickup still acts high output with gain because ceramic magnets produce a strong initial attack. Inductance mainly shapes frequency response (lower inductance shifts the resonance higher, making the pickup sound brighter or more aggressive) while the ceramic’s strength boosts overall output, giving it a hot, punchy feel.

Key Features:

Dual Magnet System:

The mixed magnet design offers warm, vintage-inspired tones with punch, clarity, and an aggressive edge for heavier, high-gain applications.

Balanced Output:

The mixed magnets work together to deliver a balanced output, maintaining clarity in the high frequencies while ensuring a tight, defined low-end.

Enhanced Dynamics:

The G/2 responds to your playing style. Whether you’re picking softly or digging in, the pickup offers a wide dynamic range that captures every nuance.

Split-Coil Option:

Designed with coil-splitting in mind, the G/2 provides chimey, single-coil-like tones when split, making it perfect for players who need a wide range of sounds without switching guitars.

Who’s It For?

The G/2 is ideal for musicians who play across genres, from blues and jazz to rock and metal. Its versatility makes it a great choice for studio work and live performances where tonal flexibility is a must.

Whether you’re re looking for clean tones or high-gain riffs, the G/2 delivers the best of both worlds with its mixed magnet design.
